When Help Feels Like One More Thing
It’s pretty common that when people start working with us, they say that the work that’s supposed to make their life easier feels like one more thing to do.
It’s not that you’re resisting the work.
It’s not that you don’t think it will help.
It’s just that… well, life is legitimately full.
There’s family stuff happening. There’s business stuff happening. And every piece of homework feels like another demand on a week that already had enough demands, thank you very much.
So when this happened for a client recently, I asked her:
If there was no homework between calls, could you do 45 minutes a week for our call?
“Yes.”
And that’s all it took.
Because the question wasn’t, “How do we make all of this fit?”
It was, “What can fit?”
45 minutes? Yes.
Homework? No.
Cool. Now we have something we can design around.
This is what most planning systems get backwards.
We decide what needs doing, then try to cram it into whatever time, energy, and brain cells are left.
But capacity has to come before making any more commitments.
The dentist appointment counts. Family stuff counts. Travel counts. Three client calls turning your brain into soup counts.
Start with the week you actually have.
Then decide what deserves to fit inside it.
That’s the idea behind the the Daily Top 3s. It’s the first tool we use in our coaching, and the entire premise that VisionaryOS is build around.
Your plan is not supposed to prove how much you can force into a week.
It’s supposed to help you make clear decisions inside the week you actually have.
Because the goal is not to become better at overloading yourself.
The goal is to make the work fit the capacity.
What would change if you planned from there?
